Biography

Lakisha is a proud Colts fan from Indianapolis, IN. Currently Lakisha is a second year doctoral student in the Department of Management Information Systems at The University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi. She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Tennessee State University (TSU) in 2002. She went on to obtain an MBA degree from the University of Phoenix in 2004.

Lakisha strives everyday to be a better leader for her family and community and thus has become a motivational speaker and trainer for women and teens. She has a passion to teach and believes education is truly the key to success. She was the first person in her family to graduate from college. Lakisha has experience teaching language and math skills to adults preparing to take the GED Exam for the Nashville Davidson County Adult Education Program. Every day of class was a chance to encourage and motivate her students to overcome the challenges that took them off course in there life.

Before beginning her career in academia, Lakisha Simmons was employed as a 6 Sigma Black Belt Project Manager for Caterpillar Financial in Nashville, TN. Caterpillar Financial is a Fortune 100, wholly owned captive finance company of Caterpillar Inc. of Peoria, IL.

With a career in academia, Lakisha plans to add to the body of knowledge in business and information systems through research and teaching. During her time at The University of Mississippi, Lakisha has already presented her research at the Academy of Management, MERLOT, and The PhD Project's Information Systems Doctoral Student Association. Lakisha's success is heavily supported by The PhD Project where she is the current secretary of The Information Systems Doctoral Association (ISDA). She is also a member of Association for Information Systems (AIS)

In her personal time, Lakisha Simmons enjoys traveling, spending time with my family, running her speaking business and promoting MarriedTravelers.com.

Her favorite hobby is painting. She enjoys going to hockey games, movies, traveling, and spending quality time with her husband.
